Shein, fashion 2.0’s black sheep?
At a time when fast fashion is being poked from all angles, be it with EPR programmes the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles or worker unions, it seems like Shein is boldly defying any progress.
The rise of eco-conscious brands that made sustainability the core of their business like Pangaia, Vegea and Allbirds, coupled with investments across the apparel industry to reach green targets coupled with customer demand for responsible products signalled a shift in buying behaviour, or so we thought.
While some are striving to live up to their sustainability promises, Shein is boldly living by its “why” that “everyone can enjoy the beauty of fashion”, which it delivers on by “promptly offering stylish quality products at appealing prices to every user in the wold”. Not by promising it will save the planet.
